Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime short review
Rating: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fullmetal Alchemis: Brotherhood, another anime that I watched because I first liking to a song 😁. I think it’s a few years ago I listened to the song, “Melissa” by Porno Graffiti. Although this seems a bit unrelated, because Melissa song is actually the opening song in the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime series released in 2003. After read some informations about Fullmetal Alchemist, it turns out there are two Fullmetal Alchemist anime releases, the one that were released in 2003 (finished) and also this “Brotherhood” which was released in 2009. I’m not a big fan of Fullmetal Alchemist, I’m just curious to watch it so I choose to watch the newest version instead, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 😃.
Difference in Brotherhood (2009) and Fullmetal Alchemist (2003). From what I have read on the discussions on the Reddit forum about Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the story follows same plots like in the manga. Meanwhile Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 only has 1/3 of the total episodes that follows the story of the manga and the rest is kind like branching, having its own story that differents. This apparently happened because Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 was made when the manga was still ongoing, and the production of the anime episode went faster than the manga so that the manga was unable to provide enough material to keep the anime running weekly. Unlike the Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, the Brotherhood version was made when the manga was almost finished.
So, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood can’t be said to be a sequel to its 2003 version (even though I initially thought it was like that) but rather an alternative version, maybe? 😃. But for fans of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, the Brotherhood is indeed the “true version” of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime 😃.
Storyline and characters
At first, what I really liked from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime is about the dark fantasy it have and a little science fiction here and there. Although the plot of the story is generally about tragic story, thankfully there are also lots of comedies so I’m sure I will be able to rewatch this anime more and more without leaving hard feeling on my heart 😂.
Telling the tragic story this anime is really cool at the beginning, but for me it’s a bit unfortunate that the story seems changing its route when it is approaching the climax by filling it more with Shounen troupe like friendship, peace. Meh 😤.
Another good thing in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime is it have a lot of characters and no one being wasted. Every character is kind like having his own important role to the story. But unfortunately this anime has one of bad trait like Dragon Ball Z, it is lack of villains. Killed villains come and come back to life for the sake of rising the plot tense 😂.
Music and soundtrack
The music and soundtrack are cool, they are very compatible with the setting and theme of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime. But maybe the closing and opening song could be better though, moreover looking the fact that I watched this anime because I initially heard the cool song “Melissa” at first which is the Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 anime soundtrack 😅.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime synopsis
Amestris is a large country known for its military strength and growing science. In the city, there is a couple of young Alchemist named Edward Elric and his younger brother Alphonse Elric. Edward Elric is famous as a genius because he managed to become a State Alchemist at the age of 15 years. Becoming a State Alchemist is not easy because being a State Alchemist means being a “military dog”.
Edward Elric earned the title “Fullmetal Alchemist” who is famous for having an artificial right arm called “automail” while his younger brother Alphonse is no less unique from him because he is a figure with an armor suit. While they are looking like a cool kids on the outside, there is a dark story behind the figure of the two brothers.
Several years ago Edward and Alphonse had done a taboo even among the Alchemists themselves: to “revive” the dead, a technique called human transmutation. Edward lost his left leg and Alphonse lost his entire body as a “fee” in the process of human transmutation. In his last attempt, Edward sacrificed his right arm to pull back Alphonse’s soul and implant it in a suit of armor. Being a “military dog”, now the two siblings are on their adventure to find a way to regain Edward’s hands & feet and Alphonse’s body.
