Workaround ASUS Zenfone Live Multitouch Bug

Indotechboy — It’s been one month since I have my ASUS Zenfone Live L2 Android phone. So far this phone is good and did not have any issues I noticed for so long I am using it. But this bug happened once, when I was playing “Ultimate Tennis” game, the touch screen suddenly became unresponsive. After seeking on the ASUS forum, it turns out that this is one of most complained bug from the earlier generation of my Android phone, ASUS Zenfone Live (without “L2”) that is known as the “multitouch bug”.

Actually the possibility this multitouch bug occur on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2 Android phone is pretty rare, maybe then chance are 1:20. Or perhaps the rare chance is also because I rarely played games on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2? (at least for now, I don’t want to overworks this phone so much to preserve its life 😅).

Oh and, the rare multitouch bug are only encountered by me when I was playing these Android games:

  • Ultimate Tennis
  • Beat MP3

But I was trying by myself to look what could be the reason of the multitouch bug on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2. Then I found two suspicious suspects 😂 of this multitouch bug:

  1. Game Genie
  2. ASUS Mobile Manager

1. Disable Game Genie in ASUS Zenfone Live L2

Game Genie is an inbuilt app on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2. Game Genie has features specialized for gaming purposes, like forcing immersive screen to a game (if the game did not displayed in immersive screen yet), killing background tasks in hope achieve higher gaming performance, to recording your gameplay.

To know whether our Android game is Game Genie-enabled, look at the navigation bar when opening your game or app. If there are a gamepad icon on the navigation bar, it is a Game Genie shortcut then it means Game Genie is enabled on the Android game / app.

So, I was tried disabled Game Genie once. There are two methods to disable Game Genie, system wide or per app/game basis. To disable Game Genie, you can follow these steps below (example is on ASUS Zenfone Live L2 Android phone):

Disable Game Genie system wide

  1. Go to “Settings” menu ➡ “Apps & notifications” ➡ “App info”.
  2. Game Genie is a system app, so we need to “show system app” before it appear in the apps list. Tap the “(three dot icon)” on the top right to show the menu, then tap “Show system”.

    Show system apps

  3. Look for “Game Genie” app and tap “Disable” button to disable Game Genie system-wide.

    Disable Game Genie

Disable Game Genie per-app basis

We can also disable Game Genie per-app / game basis:

  1. Go to “Settings” menu ➡ “Advanced” ➡ “Game Genie”.
  2. Tap on “Game toolbar” text (not the switch icon).
  3. We can see all apps and games which Game Genie toolbar allowed to appear. Just tap the switch icon to disable Game Genie on the Android app / game you want.

    Game Genie enabled apps

So how is the result? Does the multitouch bug still occurs? Unfortunately, on my own experience the multitouch bug still occured even after I disabled Game Genie 😂. So, now we can try to handle the suspect two now: ASUS Mobile Manager.

Disable ASUS Mobile Manager

ASUS Mobile Manager is also another inbuilt system app on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2 Android phone. It is a one stop app to manage your ASUS smartphone from checking system conditions, power management, autostart manager, etc.

Buy there are other reasons I disabled ASUS Mobile Manager actually, it is like making a mess to apps run in background. Important apps run in background like Gmail, WhatsApp, failed to show notifications for incoming emails, messages, etc unless we have launched them manually.

So to disable ASUS Mobile Manager on our ASUS Android phone, the steps almost same like disabling Game Genie system wide above:

  1. Go to “Settings” menu ➡ “Apps & notifications” ➡ “App info”.
  2. Tap the “(three dot icon)” on the top right to show the menu, then tap “Show system”.
  3. Search for “Mobile Manager” app, then tap on “Disable” button.

    Disable ASUS Mobile Manager

So how is the result? Yeah, it worked! On my own experience, there are no bug like the touchscreen become unresponsive again when I playing game. Even if I currently rarely playing game on my ASUS Zenfone Live L2 Android phone, I still play Ultimate Tennis Android game everyday and there are no touchscreen bug anymore when I playing it after I disabled ASUS Mobile Manager app.
